Have you heard of pay it forward? Help someone and they help someone and so on and so on. If the holidays get you down, try giving of yourself. In turn you will actually be helping YOU! This Christmas, try giving gifts of the heart. Here is a list of things you can do to spread real Christmas joy.
1. Gift of time - Spend some time helping your kids with homework or volunteering.
2. Gift of friendship - Make an effort to be there for someone you know is in need of a friend right now. We all know someone who could use an ear or a shoulder to lean on.
3. Gift of knowledge or skill - What are you good at? Can you think of a way you can share your knowledge with a child or with someone who has an interest in what you do. If you are a photographer, offer to show someone how to build a darkroom. Possibilities are endless!
4. Gift of appreciation - Tell someone how much you appreciate them being in your life. Make your Christmas cards more personal this year. Actually, write a message in each one.
5. Gift of passion - Share with someone something that you feel passionate about and tell them why. Passion is infectious and a real blessing.
Sharing these gifts sends our thoughts on a far-reaching journey where they will touch many lives. Begin multiplying your happiness by sharing one of these special gifts with someone today! Look online for the multitude of volunteer opportunities in your area. Or reach out to your family and find out what kind of love and attention they might need. Communication is the key to all these gifts of yourself.
My family is my inspiration. I hope that people remember the real message of Christmas and share that with their children. Religious or not, the meaning is clear... love, friendship and sharing our hearts.
